Frequently asked questions

Can't find your answer? Write to us.

Is Turquoise really anonymous?

Towards other members, yes: they only see your initials and a colour — never your name, email address or phone number. The moderators of your community can see your name and email address so they can keep the community safe.

Do I need to install an app?

No. Turquoise works in any modern browser on phones, tablets and computers. You can add it to your home screen to use it like an app and receive notifications.

What does “read-only” mean?

A moderator can stop one member from sending messages in one group, for example after repeated spam. The member keeps reading and can still react with emoji. It can be lifted at any time.

What do notifications show?

Only “New message in [group name]”. Neither the sender nor the message text appears on your screen.

Is Turquoise end-to-end encrypted?

No. Connections are encrypted and data is stored in Switzerland, but messages are stored on our servers so that moderation and message history work. Our tools never display message content.

Are there private one-to-one chats?

No. Turquoise is deliberately a group chat only — everything happens in the groups of your community.

Who pays?

The community's owner (moderator) subscribes per community. Members you invite always use Turquoise for free.

What happens after the free trial?

The community is locked: members still see their groups but cannot open the messages until the subscription starts. Nothing is deleted.

Can I be in several communities?

Yes, with one account. Each community is completely separate; moderators only ever see their own.

Can messages be deleted?

Members can delete their own messages within one hour. Moderators can delete any message in their community.

How large can a community be?

Communities have up to 150 members by default; larger communities of up to 1,000 members are available on request.

Where is my data stored?

On servers of a Swiss hosting provider in Switzerland.
